Most bands are cleaned only with alcohol. You can get 91% which is
stronger and helps with the stink. We poured it on a washcloth and
scrubbed the band really hard. If you can put it in the sun to dry
that helps too - but works better in summer :-) Make sure the band
and daughter's head are dry before putting it back on. Wash your
daughter's hair daily with mild shampoo (unless she gets too dry).
Also try to keep her cool enough so she's not sweaty.
And even after you do all that it may stink a little :-)
Some people also recommend smelly shampoo like Loreal Kids fruit
scented ones, but we didn't use these because my daughters skin is a
little sensitive.
I hope Lily's head is round quickly.
