We always wiped it down with 91% rubbing alcohol and then let it air out - sometimes in the sun.
I would also sprinkle a little J&J freshness time release baby powder and rub that around in a dry helmet - It seemed to help too.

Subject: [Plagio] stinky helmet
I just joined the group this evening. A very nice mother in the same
orthotics office as I gave me the info on this site. Tomorrow will be
1 week that my 6 mo old Lily has had her helmet and it already stinks.
We have been washing it with baby soap and sometimes rubbing alcohol.
Is there anything to get rid of the smell?
Thanks
Julie
