chris,
sounds like you are doing well. i had R BHR April 3. was back at
work in 13 days as an ER doctor. I used the crutch maybe 2 wks, but
honestly could walk without it at 4 days post op. you have an
amazing device and will be totally blown away at how natural and good
it will feel. the single most important part of your life now is
REHAB. i did my own, but do what you are told. walk, ride, ellipse,
anything that gives you ROM without impact will expedite your
recovery. straight leg raises and leg raises with foot circles were
a mainstay for 4 mos for me. i was on the ellipse at post op day 5,
biking at 1 week and put gentle weight resistance on leg raises and
hip abd/adduction machine at 2 wks. i worked out 5-6 times a week.
fast forward to now. I ran 11 miles yesterday morning and did lunges
in the weightroom in the evening. I cannot tell any difference in my
native vs. resurf. hip. in fact, my ROM is better on the operated
hip. i started running on a treadmill slowly at around 5 most post
op. I don't tell you this to encourage it. Mine was ultra
aggressive and i was in good shape going in. i run for aerobic
fitness. i hate all the other machines honestly. i am 42 yr old and
6 ft, 195 lb. i feel 20 again, honestly. I cannot fathom why anyone
would go for a THR if they are active. You made an incredible life
changing decision and the right one as far as i am concerned. if my
hip failed tomorrow it was worth it.
