I have often thought it is just a way for the insurance company to hopefully wean out a few people. This requirement is based on the recommendations from the National Instiute of Health from several years ago. The insurance wants to make sure that you are committed and will do well for the surgery. Yes, you still need the surgery even if you can do well for this 3 months because only 2% of the obese poplulation can lose weight and keep it off and since you are on this site then I have to believe that you are in the other 98%. It really does behoove you to try to lose weight during this time because it will make the surgery safer and the insurance company only uses the beginning weight so good luck!
